What is the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)?

Camden CAMHS consists of a number of services in Camden for children, young people, their families and carers who are experiencing emotional, behavioural and mental health problems.  These services include:

• Tavistock Centre and Portman clinic
• Royal Free Hospital
• CAMHS in Mosaic (special needs)
• Multi-agency Liaison Team (CAMHS in social care)
• Brandon Centre
• Anna Freud Centre

We work closely with Camden Council's Children’s Schools and Families department, health services (GPs, health visitors, school nurses and paediatricians) and the voluntary sector.

Who is the service for?

The service offers help to children and adolescents from birth until their 19th birthday, their families and carers as well as offering advice and consultation to other professionals working with children, adolescents and their families.  

Where is the service provided?

CAMHS teams provide services in specialised clinics at Tavistock Centre, St Pancras Hospital, Royal Free Hospital as well as in several health centres, GP practices, schools, children's centres and voluntary agency settings. 

How to make a referral?

Routine referrals should be sent to the Joint Intake Referrals service at the address below and can also be sent electronically via a Camden e-caf referral form.

Referrals are allocated to the most appropriate service for the problem presented. Urgent referrals can be discussed on the telephone during office hours with a member of staff from the Joint Intake Referrals Service but emergencies should attend A&E at the Royal Free Hospital or UCLH.
